Vegetarian
Ingredients
Makes 4 serves
For crumble:
- 90g softened butter
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup soft brown sugar
- 1/2 cup plain flour
For apple filling:
- 5 Granny Smith apples
- 2 tablespoons soft brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon or mixed spices

Method
- Peel apples and cut sides off core. Slice into thin pieces.
- Place apples into pan on high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of soft brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of spices or cinnamon. Stir over heat for a couple of minutes.
- Turn heat down to low, cover pot with lid and leave to stew for about 5 minutes.
- Start on the crumble. Put dry ingredients into bowl and mix together. Add butter and use fingers to rub butter into dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Place the stewed apples into the bottom of a small baking tray or oven-safe dish. Cover apples with the crumble mixture, pressing the crumble down gently so that it sticks together, then sprinkle some loose crumble over the top.
- Put the dish under the grill for about 4-5 minutes until the crumble on top turns golden and crunchy.
- Serve hot with ice cream – it’s essential!
